President's Message: A Message From Joe Faraldo

Our organization was founded in 1954 and since that time, we have diligently represented the owners, trainers and drivers competing at Yonkers Raceway.
The SOA has been at the forefront in keeping the racing industry healthy during legislative reform.  The SOA regularly meets with elected officials and educates politicians about the importance of racing and agriculture in New York, and the tremendous impact it has on jobs and the local economy.
2014 was an important year for the future of racing at Yonkers. Important inroads were made to expand the Yonkers Raceway signal into European markets. This is in addition to the Australian markets that were added in 2012. On a weekly basis, the Yonkers simulcast signal can now be seen and wagered on all over the world including Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Austria, Holland, Switzerland and Belgium.
The global expansion of American harness racing, with Yonkers leading the way, can open up vast new markets and reinvigorate the game here in the United States. The expansion into Europe also helped bring about the return of the International Trot to Yonkers Raceway for 2015. A visit to Paris in 2014 with the SOA and Tim Rooney Sr helped lead the way for the return of this great trotting event.
The SOA meets regularly with Senior Management of Yonkers Raceway to discuss important racing matters. Typical agenda items include purse structure, racing schedule, capital improvements, simulcasting and promotions.
The SOA Board of Directors meet quarterly to discuss current issues and SOA members are invited to attend and learn more about the organization or offer their input. We encourage and welcome your comments and questions. Feel free to contact us via e-mail at soaofny@optonline.net
On behalf of all the SOA directors and staff, I wish you all the success possible in both racing and in life.
