ARRIGENNA NAMED TO THE AGRICULTURE AND NEW YORK HORSE BREEDING DEVELOPMENT FUND

LATHAM, N.Y--Harness Horse Breeders of New York State is pleased to learn of the appointment of Peter Arrigenna by Governor Andrew Cuomo, to the Board of Trustees of the Agriculture and New York State Horse Breeding Development Fund. The Fund promotes agriculture through the breeding of Standardbred horses and administers the New York Sire Stakes program among its many activities.

"On behalf of all our members, I congratulate Peter Arrigenna on his new post. We are thrilled to see a Standardbred owner and breeder, who has worked as hard in this business as Peter has, appointed to the Agriculture and New York State Horse Breeding Development Fund. It is always essential to have knowledgeable and experienced people at the helm of our state breeding program," said Betty Holt, Executive Director of Harness Horse Breeders.

Arrigenna has served on the board of the Harness Horse Breeders for a decade, most recently in the position of Vice President. He will continue to serve in this elected post.

Arrigenna, 58, has bred and raised his own stock for the Sire Stakes program for two decades, so he understands the up’s and down’s that breeders face, but this builder and horse trainer also understands the challenge of preparing a successful stable each season. In recent years he has become well known for his skill with trotters, sending out homebred NYSS champion trotting filly Tuesday's With Mom ($468,306) and also developing world champion and Yonkers Trot winner Archangel ($906,579) from his Piffard, N.Y.-based barn.

"The breeders of the state look forward to continuing to work with Peter and the Breeding Fund on our shared goal to make the New York Sires Stakes the strongest breeding program in the country," said Holt.

The Board of Agriculture and New York State Horse Breeding Development Fund's core mission is to promote agriculture through the breeding of Standardbred horses and the conduct of equine research in New York. The Fund administers the New York Sire Stakes races, Excelsior series races, and County Fair races. The Fund also provides assistance to county agriculture societies and contributes to the statewide 4-H program and to the Harry M. Zweig Fund for Equine Research.
